They Laughed When I Left the Law to Do What I Love, Lead People Up Mountains and Down Trails. But, When I Succeeded…

I guess it’s no surprise, I’m not a fan of traditional offices…

Because, all too often, traditional means conventional—working, thinking, living and breathing someone else’s air…in the box someone else has built for you. Their rules, their culture, their vision, their judgments, their limitations, their brand, their bank account, their parameters, their products, their services, their cash-in, cash-out, upside, payout. Their world.

If you’re happy living in that box, hey, that’s cool. Some of you may be.

But, if you haven’t yet given up on your dream, if you’d kill to find a way to reclaim control of your living, reawaken your body, mind and soul and rebuild your life around freedom and passion…man have I got something for you.

Basecamp-logo

It’s going down in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 25-27th.

For two and a half days, you’re going to join me (Jonathan Fields), Olympic Gold Medalist in Whitewater Caneo/Kayak and uber-coach, Joe Jacobi, and a select tribe of Lifestyle Renegades for the adventure of a lifetime.

Not in a stuffy downtown conference room with dropped ceilings, florescent lights and rented furniture. Not in an office suite with suits running around…but in a 200 acre man-made outdoor adventure park known as the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

center

In 2 ½ groundbreaking days, we’ll…

  • Take you away – We’ll deliver you from the mind-limiting conventional trappings of your everyday environment and immerse you into the outdoor “anything goes” adventure of a lifetime. Just 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is a breathtaking 200 acre man-made adventure park, complete with a whitewater rapids course and lake, mountainbiking, hiking, rock climbing, zip-lining and beyond. This will be the staging area for Basecamp Renegade…and the beginning of your own personal lifestyle revolution.
  • Awaken Your Body – Imagine learning to run the rapids from an Olympic Gold medalist whitewater guru and world-renowned coach. Flying through wooded trails on a mountainbike. Swooping down a zip line. Feeling your body come back to life, your mind sharpen, your spirit soar. Utterly immersed in the moment. Learning something new, vigorous, transformative. When was the last time you felt like that? Embraced the renegade spirit? Unbridled freedom? Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s been years. Maybe decades. But, that’s just the beginning…
  • Awaken Your Mind – The rapids, rocks and the trail are tremendous teachers. Not just about how to navigate your body, but how to take back your life. Joe and I will build on the physical quests, translating these experiences into hardcore, immediately actionable awakening that flow through to every aspect of your life. We’ll sharpen the saw with information, inspiration and exercises that will help you reclaim your freedom, confidence and control in all aspects of life. Then, we’ll…
  • Awaken Your Life – Build on the mind, body and spirit awakening with a set of concrete individual and group experiences, including Renegade Hotseats that’ll open your eyes to possibilities you’ve probably dreamed of bringing to life—professional, personal, physical, emotional, spiritual—but never dared to try…let alone speak about. We’ll awaken your inner Renegade, plot a course of action, then…
  • Launch Your Renegade Quest For Freedom – Joe and I will take you beyond the whitewater, beyond the trail, beyond the powerful energy of the group, beyond the transformation lessons and activities and move you to a place of action. No more just thinking about it. No more just talking about it. It’s time to reclaim your life. And, that takes DOING something about it!raft

…With Two Renegade Who Walk the Walk…

If you’ve read this far, I’m guessing you already know who I am. And, you may have heard of Joe. But, just for the fun of it, here’s the 411 on us…

Jonathan Fields | Career Renegade, Lifestyle Entrepreneur & Author

jf_head_icon12 years ago, I walked away from a six-figure career as a Manhattan mega-firm lawyer after the stress of the job crashed my immune system and sent me into emergency surgery and made a passion-driven jump into the world of fitness. Everyone said, “you’re nuts, you’re never make enough to survive…you’ll be back.” But, I never was…

Tapping my obsession for entrepreneurship, marketing and the lifestyle business, I quickly figured out how to make real money where most others scraped by. I launched, grew then sold a number of small companies, including a highly successful private fitness and adventure training facility and Manhattan’s top-rated yoga center. And, as my interests evolved to the online world, I began to establish myself in the world of online small business, social media, marketing and blogging, launching two popular blogs on lifestyles, entrepreneurship and marketing at CareerRenegade.com and Awake @ The Wheel (at JonathanFields.com).

But, still, I was just beginning. In response to repeated requests to help others do what I’ve done, I launched entrepreneurship catalyst, Career Renegade, Inc., a NYC-based venture that helps professionals and small businesses market the pants off their competitors, grow like weeds and generally kick some serious ass. And, in January 2009, I became a Random House author, releasing Career Renegade: How to Make a Great Living Doing What You Love to rave reviews.

You can also find me pretty regularly in mainstream media, including features in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, USA Today, CNBC, Fox Business News, Fast Company, The Today Show, CBS Radio, WOR, SmartMoneyTV, Entrepreneur.com, Self, Fitness, Elle, Vogue, Small Business Success and thousands of other print, radio and online outlets.

When not scheming small business and lifestyle domination, you can find me hiking in the woods or dancing around my living room with my wife and 8-year old daughter.

Joe Jacobi | Olymic Gold Medalist, TV Commentator & Motivational Zen-Master

joeWhile I was killing myself at a desk in Manhattan, Joe Jacobi was hot on the trail of a gold-medal vision—training himself to a world-class level, traveling to the most exciting sporting events in the world, and keeping himself supremely healthy.

Joe’s dedication paid off in Olympic Gold at the Barcelona Games in 1992, and the day after they hung the medal around his neck he woke up and started down the road he still follows—teaching others the passion and intensity he used to win world acclaim in his favorite sport, whitewater kayaking.

Since winning the 1992 Olympics, Joe has continued to apply Olympian standards to his life’s vision:

  • Community Building: A year before the 1996 Olympics, Joe bought and renovated an ailing property near the Olympic Whitewater venue in Tennessee and made it a home for his family and visiting athletes from Italy, Slovenia, Netherlands, Great Britain & Japan. Five years later, the Lodge at Copperhill sold as one of the region’s most popular overnight destinations, opening the door for Joe to play key roles in the development of next-generation parks, conference centers, and lifestyle destinations including the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
  • RiverLife Coaching: As one of the country’s top kayaking instructors and coaches, Joe frames the basics of paddlesports as powerful learning experiences for first time paddlers all the way up to the Olympic level. His coaching positions the river to be a dynamic, convincing yet empathetic teacher whose lessons extend far beyond the river. Joe’s athletes learn to view kayaking not as the destination but a springboard for getting there.
  • Telling Kayaking’s Story: Joe served as the Canoe/Kayak Color Commentator for NBC at the Beijing Olympic Games as well as other network broadcasts on MSNBC, Universal Sports and Outdoor Life Network and spken at many Fortune 500 companies like Coca Cola, Home Depot, United Airlines or Bank of America (to name a few) in the last 15 years.
  • Tuning Instruments: Co-Founded “Pickin’ In The Park,” a weekly acoustic music jam that launched in north Georgia and is now a permanent fixture of enjoyment and economic growth in seven communities in five states, using New and Social Media to tell their stories, build their tribes, share their music and compete with big labels.

Man, I wish I’d known about Joe when I was still practicing law—maybe I could’ve saved myself that trip to the emergency room.

This is exactly what you’ll get…

So, by now you’re thinking, “this sounds pretty damn cool, but what will I really get out of it? Here are a few answers…

  • Play with Jonathan & Joe – Two and a half days immersed in the journey of a lifetime with two of the most sought after lifestyle and career leaders on the planet (okay, so we’re really just two nice guys with a ton of experience and ideas who love changing peoples’ worlds)
  • Two days of adventure sports, including whitewater river play, mountain-biking, climbing and zip-lining - Led by Joe, Jonathan and the team of adventure experts at the center (appropriate for total newbies), all necessary equipment and unlimited access to the adventure park.
  • Basecamp Renegade launch sessions – In addition to our time in the water, we’ll share a solid chunk of time on dry-land exploring an array of strategies to:
    • Identify the core elements of what makes you come alive in work, play and life
    • Cultivate the Renegade Mindset – learn a set of simple daily practices that will fuel you past obstacles, challenges and roadblocks, especially those fabricated by your own mind, and keep you calm, focused and driven.
    • Translate experiences from the water and the trail into actionable principles that’ll fuel your continued growth and success
    • Explore the 7 renegade paths – These are the renegade approaches to entrepreneurship that can turn often seemingly moneyless passions, interests and hobbies into lucrative sources of income.
  • Basecamp Hotseats – For those seeking direct and immediate input on your own person journey, we’ll invite you to “reveal” your vision in a series of short-burst Basecamp Hotseats, where Joe and I will work with you and the group to break down barriers to action, brainstorm options, then define the immediate actions you need to take to bring your quest to life.
  • Success Mythbusting – One of the greatest challenges to getting going is understanding what’s useless fluff and what’s powerful information. So, we’re going to do a bit of mythbusting about personal development, entrepreneurship, high-level achievement and success in all aspects of life
  • Build a Renegade launch team – This experience is called Basecamp, because it’s ground zero, the place where everything begins. But, it’s not the summit. To get there, you’ll need action…and a team. And, we’ll teach you how to rally those closest to you to your cause, ignore the naysayers who don’t matter and define which is which. Plus, the members of the Basecamp Renegade tribe will all become members of your personal quest, holding you accountable and supporting your adventure.

Nuts & Bolts:

So, here’s how the weekend will unfold –

  • Dates: Friday, September 25th (6pm) to Sunday, September 27th (4pm)
  • Location: Charlotte, NC
  • Staging Area – U.S. National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC
  • Suggested Accommodations – We’ll e-mail you a short list of recommended hotels within a block or two of each other (and where we’ll be staying), shortly after you’ve completed your registration (hotel & air not included in program fee)
  • Schedule:
    • Friday: 6-9pm – meet & greet, opening experience
    • Saturday:
      • 9-4pm at Whitewater Center
      • 6-9pm dinner gathering
    • Sunday: 9-3 Whitewater Center

You got questions, I got answers…

Q: Do I need experience in whitewater kayaking?
A: None. All you need is an openness to something new and cool. We’ll teach you everything you need to know, give you all the gear and take pictures of you looking seriously cool to show to all your friends. Just be sure to bring your own boat…kidding! We’ll give you that, too…if you’re nice.

Q: Do I need to know how to swim?
A: Yes. Well kind of. More importantly, you need to be able to float (with the assistance of a life jacket) in the same position as you’d sit in a recliner chair. Then a little leg kicking and arm movement (while still in the water) might help too. And, you’ll need to bring whatever you usually like to swim in (tuxedos optional).

Q: Will be doing other outdoor activities?
A: Yes, we will likely mix in some hiking and potentially mountainbiking and rock climbing (all climbing is done on an artificial climbing wall, so it in a very controlled setting and, if offered, will be an optional experience). And, while we have reserved conference facilities and the center, if the weather permits, we’d much rather do everything we can outside.

Q: Is this going to be a hand-holding, koombaya fluff-fest?
A: Uh, no. On a personal level, Joe and I are both spiritual guys, but this weekend is all about experience, inspiration and action. You don’t have to buy into any foofy weird stuff. Just pretend you never saw Jonathan summoning the river spirits wearing nothing but his Native American headdress and we’ll all be fine.

Q: Is Charlotte easy to get to? Do I need to rent a car?
A: Charlotte in a major air hub and flights tend to be very inexpensive (JetBlue and US Air fly there). Plus, the airport is only 20 minutes from the hotel (if you’re coming from out of town). We’ll provide transportation between our designated departure spot (hotel in Uptown) and the Whitewater Center on Saturday and Sunday. And, we’ll likely all go out to dinner together close to the hotel Saturday night, so you don’t need a car.

Q: How this is different than the career counsler I saw last week?
A: It’s not. We’re secretly a major recruiting agency looking to brainwash you into taking yet another lifesucking job that empties your soul, while padding your wallet and giving you a false sense of security that’ll vanish along with the job the next time someone says boo about the economy. Now, give us your money, your soul and your brains, dammit!

Q: Is this for me?
A: Do you have a pulse? Are you doing what you want to do in life? Are you getting back what you dreamed of getting back? Are you where you want to be? Do you want to move beyond having a J-O-B to having a life? And, most importantly…do you wanna play with a bunch of cool people and get wet?

What’s it gonna cost me?

I’m in! Now what’s it gonna cost? Let’s see, you get two and a half days to:

  • Hang out with, learn from and play with an acclaimed lifestyle entrepreneur, author, blogger, speaker and mentor and a world-renowned Olympian,
  • Free-reign of one of the coolest adventure parks in the country,
  • Two days of meals,
  • Transportation between the designated hotel lobby and Whitewater Center,
  • All the whitewater instruction and guiding, mountainbiking, hiking, climbing and zip-lining
  • All necessary gear, boats, rafts, bikes and other equipment,
  • Hours and hours of killer lifestyle, entrepreneurship and career tactics, strategies and hands-on support,
  • Your own personal Basecamp Renegade tribe to keep you inspired and hold you accountable to your dream, and
  • A weekend you’ll be telling your friends about for years…

All for the ridiculously reasonable price of $895. But, actually, wait a second. You know what? I’m a big believer in rewarding action. It’s the first sign of being someone who’s done talking about coming alive and is ready to step up and create the life they want.

So, let’s do this…

Reserve your spot by August 31st and I’ll instantly knock $100 of the price.

So, you’ll lock in your place in the tribe for only $795.

Does that sound fair?

Sadly, you can’t all come…

Okay, so I hate this part. It’s the part where I have to say…you may not make into in the tribe. This ain’t no mega-event with boatloads of people desperately hoping to just shake the presenter’s hands when they walk by. It’s small, personal and intense.

And, because of the intimate nature of the Basecamp Renegade experience, we limit the tribe to only 25 people. Any more than that and we can’t get done what we need to get done.

So, if you want in…you need to act…now!

What you need to do next…

Seriously, when was the last time you got to spend 2 ½ days with an Olympic Gold Medal winner and a renowned Renegade lifestyle author and blogger (renowned at least to my mom)?

Time to take back your life and come alive.

And, the first step starts here…

Events

Here’s to taking back your life!

Jonathan

P.S. – If you were on the fence before, I completely understand. It’s not easy to break old habits, no matter how destructive or life-sucking they are. To step out of the cage others would rather keep you in. Clicking the button was just the first step, though, our weekend together will fire you up and move you forward like never before.
